ATC366++ ARTIST TRADING CARDS

The ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) are, as the name suggests, works of art created with the intention of being traded. They were used for a long time, in the artistic medium as business cards that represented the artist's capacities and were exchanged, in hand, among artists, gallerists and art dealers and others. With this small catalog of artworks, it would thus be possible for anyone interested to learn techniques from other artists, to own a small private collection of art or even to use them as real business cards at the time of commissioning works.
Although there are reports of the use of this type of card in the XVIII century, it was only in the late 90s, by the Swiss artist M. Vänçi Stirnemann, that they gain the current name by which they are known today and come to have their standardized dimensions as 64 x 89 mm (2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches).

Some of ATC's variants are:
ACEO's (Art Cards Editions and Originals) - a version specifically designed for sale.
ATCBJ (Artist Trading Card Buddy Jam) - identical or similar ATC's, the result of collaboration among two or more artists and created in an identical quantity to those involved.
On a Double Buddy Jam, the first artist sends 2 similar ATCs to a second artist. The receiver works on top of those starters, keeps one and returns the second to the sender. A Triple Buddy Jam is rather similar, yet involves 3 artists.

On the ATCs back, the artists may sign and write the date when he received and the date of the art creation among other details.

4. Participants with selected artwork will receive artwork by the artist Monsenhor enVide neFelibata.
5. This exhibition will tour through Portugal, since it travels along with the puppet show with the same name, and the participants will be noticed of every one of them by email.
6. Free style, technique and media.
7. Maximum size is 190x280mm.
8. There is no maximum limit for the amount of sent artwork per person.
9. The received and selected artwork will be used at all the following exhibitions.

Dear friend, ...

After touring through the north of the country, the present question is the following: And now where? We do want to have at least one more edition and the available solutions are; a visit to the south of Portugal, return to the city that has seen the project birth or go abroad to other countries. Anyways, the collection and exhibition will be always available to be presented as soon as some other home requests it. So, … since there will be one more edition, submitting artwork is still possible.
A very big thanks to all of you that made this project possible, to the artists my sincere regards and a special thanks to the artist and longtime friend Migvel Tepes as well to Fértil Cultural.

The website will be under updates for a couple of months in order to post all the most recent artwork that was presented at this last shows.

Caro amigo, ...

Depois de uma digressão pelo norte do país, a questão que se coloca é a seguinte: E agora aonde? Existem intenções de no mínimo se realizar mais uma edição e as soluções possíveis são; uma visita ao sul do país, regressar à cidade que viu nascer o projeto ou rumar ao estrangeiro. De qualquer das formas o espólio e exposição ficarão para sempre disponíveis aquando solicitação do mesmo. Sendo que se prevê agendar mais uma edição, a submissão das obras ainda é possível e aqui fica o regulamento para o efeito.

This is an international collective MailArt and ArtByMail exhibition. It’s also an activity that goes hand on hand with the homonymous puppet show from the puppet company Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora and it’s an exhibition that will be shown alongside each presentation of that same puppet show. This event pretends to encourage artists joining an international movement. It’s also a way to provide artists the opportunity to show their work at Portugal and to spread the concepts of mailart to other people.
Artists are invited to join sending their artwork by snail mail regarding the provided theme and title “QUEIXA_TE – D. Quixote e Sancho Pança”. It will be an honor to have your participation on such event.

So far we've received 33 artworks from 20 artists from 15 different nationalities.
This mailart call is different from the others since the exhibition will tour through Portugal and all the participants will receive artwork in return.

The main ideas of this mailart event call are: first, to provide IUOMA network members the opportunity to show their work at Portugal and secondly to spread the concepts of mailart to other people by means of the exhibition and the workshop that will be held at the same place at the opening.

1. The Mailart Event Call theme is “desAMORES” that could be translated as “unloves / unmatchable loves”. This event will close a series of LOVE related art projects created by the organization, FÉRTIL CULTURAL.

2. All artwork should be mailed to the following address:

4. The exhibition will be held at 'Casa da Pedreira' at Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal.

5. A second exhibition might happen at Fundação Cupertino Miranda, Vila Nova de Famalicão at Portugal on 2016 and is, at the moment, being analyzed. More information will be revealed as soon as possible.

Fundação Cupertino Miranda is the only European Museum to have a Studies Center of Surrealism and has the biggest collection of Portuguese surrealism artwork.

6. The exhibition will be complemented with a small workshop. At that workshop, artwork will be created and mailed to all the exhibition participants.

"Rabisca o Risco" - Call for Mail Art

'Rabisca o Risco' started as a motif for drawing and practicing some more. Since I have a special interest on the random factor and the use of randomness as a seed for projects, I asked friends to play this old game with me. The main idea of this game is to be able to draw something after a small random doodle made by someone else.

So, ... here's the deal:
At the provided link there's a starter.
The link gives you an A4 page with a 15X15cm square with a line inside it.You may print it or transfer it with carbon paper to the desire 'canvas'. Using that random line (the same for everyone), you should create something without "breaking" it.

When mailing me the 15X15cm artwork (cut to that size), ... remember do add a random line on a blank canvas so that I may also create something for you.
