Darwins (R)evolution - Portugal

Mail-Art call: Darwin's (R)evolution

Darwin was a scientist and thinker who deeply marked the natural sciences and our perspective on the history of mankind. As part of the celebrations of the 200 anniversary of his birth and the 150 anniversary of the publication of his most important work - "The origin of species", the Museum of Science of the University of Coimbra, challenges all Mail-Art artists, to send us works inspired on the figure of Darwin or the theory of the origin and evolution of species. The work submitted will be available in the site of the Museum, as well as a selection will be presented in the Museum during 2009.

This initiative consists of an online exhibition on www.museudaciencia.pt and an
exhibition of a selection of works, at the Science Museum, University of Coimbra.

The works will not be returned. Originals will remain in the organizer’ s ownership and
may be used to promote the initiative without payment of royalties. If so, the organizer
is obliged to inform the author and to mention the name / title of the work.

The Museum of Ornamental Post is now officially open


... for the past year the Museum of Ornamental Post has been displaying the best of mail art that comes through our mail slot. The Museum is committed to a continuing project of ever rotating exhibitions and is always open to donations/exchange of mail art and books. So please send art and we will send you something original back.
We have just finished our $1,293,329,573.62 ZWD renovations which added a library and an exhibit space dedicated to retrospectives of the Museum's favourite artists.
The Museum has and is featuring the works of David Berube, Walt Evans, Ficus Strangulensis, Fluxus, Rachel Freeman, Wackystuff, Rhiannon Agostino, Lothar Trott, Ryosuke Cohen, bookshandmade, Chuck Gattuso and many more way cool mail artists.

You are invited to participate in The Museum of Temporary Art, our ongoing project. We are looking for small objects (size 3,5 x 3,5 x 7 cm) connected to a story, which makes the objects valuable and special.

Inside and Out

Inside and Out: Architecture and Interior Design Mail Art Event and
Dialogue

This is a mail art exhibit and dialogue. Visitors to the exhibition
will be encouraged to make mail art in response to the mail art they
see on the walls and send it to the participating artists. The event
is sponsored by the Modesto Art Museum, modestoartmuseum.org.

Theme: architecture, world, future, fantasy, dynamic, traditional,
and symbolic architecture, city planning, architects, landscape
architecture, gothic, ancient, googie, art deco, mid-century modern,
post-modern, interior design, fabric, furniture, lighting,
designers, etc.

Format: Envelopes, post cards, stamps, collage, drawings, paintings,
models, computer generations, photographs, mixed media, etc. We
recommend use of the outside of your medium, incorporating the
postage stamp and address into your art.

Deadline for all entries: 13 February 2008
Exhibit: The exhibition will be in Modesto, California, March 15-29,
2008, at Picasso's Deli and Gallery.

Mail Art Dialogue: All participants over 18 years old will receive
one or more pieces of mail art from gallery visitors responding to
your mail art.

Return: none, unless accompanied by a self addressed envelope with
sufficient postage for return mail. International participants must
include multiple postal coupons for return.
Size: no limits

Documentation: All artists listed on the web site. See also Mail Art
Dialogue above.
Note: Please include your mailing address and email address on/in
your entry for acknowledgement and mail art dialogue.
