55 years

Hello my artistic friends,

Today, I take my electronic pen, to share a wish, that may come true with your collaboration. You can also pass on my request to your networkif you feel it appropriate.

This year I will be 55 years of age, and to highlight this passage, I would like to receive at least 55 decorated envelopes in my own mail box, while I can still benefit from that privilege.

Much to my regret, Canada Post announced the end of home delivery within 3 years. Yes, that era will end soon! No more interactions with the mail man, always proud to deliver the unconventional mail, brightening up his day.

When all the envelopes will be received, I will assemble a souvenir album in order to preserve your artistic donations. In exchange of your creation I promise to send back one of my postal art piece.

Hopefully my wish will be granted by receiving your mail art.May you beinspired.Thanking you in advance.

Calling all thrifters and photographic artists!

During Month of Photography in Colorado, Buffalo Exchange Boulder will celebrate photography and the unexpected with an exhibition of your photographic mail art creations!  The art of the thrift and the eco-conscience act of being green will collide with original works art.  The exhibition will be dedicated to an exchange of ideas and the vintage thrill of corresponding through the mail.  2D, objects, and 3D work will all be considered.  Surprise and challenge us with your original artwork.  We want you to put your own unique twist on your mail art and help us celebrate photography, community, and fashion.  Don’t miss your chance to show your work in Colorado during Month of Photography!

During our closing reception, which coincides with Earth Day, all work included in the show will offered for symbolic sale to visitors.  For a minimum donation of at least $1, visitors and guests will have the opportunity to purchase their favorite one-of-a-kind work of art and the money will support a local charity.

Buffalo Exchange started in Tucson Arizona in 1974.  Our three Colorado locations are independently owned franchises, having opened our doors in the fall of 1995. Buffalo Exchange has had a passion for art since the beginning. It has not only strived to keep its local cities as ethically fashionable as possible, but also supports the art community by hosting local artists, musicians, fashion shows, and events on a monthly basis.

Mail Art, a brief history...Mail art, which emerged in the late 1960s as a collective, networked medium and an undisciplined offspring of Fluxus, Conceptual art, and experimental poetry, allowed artists to circulate and exchange works and ideas in a sphere uncontrolled by institutions, markets, or state censorship.

Entry Deadline:
March 21st, 2015.  All submission must be received in the mail by this day.

Marika Evanger is an artist, stylist, and fashion business entrepreneur.  As the manager of Buffalo Exchange Boulder, she brings over 10 years experience in the industry and has a keen eye for hip fashion.  Katie Harwood is contemporary artists and photographer living, working, and teaching in Boulder.  She received her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute and brings over 15 years experience of working in the photography and artistic industries.  Both Marika and Katie have a great passion for strengthening local community through art and bring a fresh eye to contemporary photography.
