Hello! I'm an artist from Brazil organizing an mail art call for a college project in Escola Guignard.

Your Mountains

Known for it's mountains, the landscape of Minas Gerais inspires us in this mail art call.
To celebrate it's 80th anniversary, Escola Guignard invites artists, professionals and amateurs to participate in this celebration by creating and mailing artwork that fits inside a A4 size envelope (about: 21cm x 29,7cm), reflecting the proposed theme. We wish to dialogue with artists and their own mountains around the world.

Escola Guignard was founded by the artist Alberto da Veiga Guignard in 1944, and today is part of the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG), that offers free courses, undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses in Plastic Arts and Visual Arts.

Conhecida pelas suas montanhas, a paisagem de Minas Gerais nos inspira nesta convocatória de arte postal.
Para comemorar seu 80° aniversário, a Escola Guignard convida artistas profissionais e amadores a participar desta celebração por meio da criação e envio de trabalhos artísticos que caibam dentro de um envelope oficio (24x34 cm), refletindo sobre o tema proposto. Desejamos dialogar com artistas e suas montanhas através do mundo.

A Escola Guignard foi fundada pelo artista Alberto da Veiga Guignard em 1944 e hoje integra a Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais, oferecendo cursos livres, de Graduação e Pós-Graduação em Artes Plásticas e Artes Visuais.

Mail Art at the end of the World - Germany

 

Dear all Mail-Artists,

as a Germany-based cultural anthropologist, I am interested in how Mail-Art emerged, how it reacted to upheavals in the past, and how it deals with current social change movements. I work with postcards and their role in times of social and political upheavals. Therefore, I wanted to engage with Mail-Art as both an art form and a way of commenting on current events. For me, mail-art became one of the most exciting democratizing art forms around the globe.

So, this should be somewhat of an open call to send me your postcards that thematize your experiences with mail-art and social change – be it in the past or today – until June 15th.

I will be trying to set up a on-site mail-art show with the entries or a zine, but at least there will be an online showcasing of it. Furthermore, I'd love to use your pieces for my further research on the topic and if you are eager to speak to me personally about your experiences I am happy to set up a meeting. Also feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.
