COLLAGE BY BLACK DOG PUBLISHING
Collage has been at the forefront of the digital revolution, if not for the final results, then for the method, a way of mixing images and texts via computer manipulation. Like music sampling (hip hop and rap), multiple sources can be "glued" together to create something extremely new and strange. The dadaists seized on the methods employed by Picasso and Braque, and the surrealists made a living out of collage to great and what appears to be everlasting effect. It can be argued that collage is perhaps the preeminent art method of the 20th and 21st centuries. Modern masters like Joseph Cornell and Ray Johnson created some of the most memorable collages, with the later extending his signature methods into pretty much all aspects of his life and art.
Just out is the new fat volume on the subject by Black Dog Publishing / UK : Collage Assembling Contemporary Art. With known experts Sally O’Reilly, Ian Monroe, David Lillington and John Stezaker among the contributors, the hardcover 240 page color book retails for £35.00.
According to Black Dog Publishing: "Collage: Assembling Contemporary Art is a striking and authoritative survey of the history of collage, from its origins through to the work being produced by artists today.
With contemporary artists reclaiming the form, collage is flourishing. From the traditional ‘cut and paste’ method through to digital, three dimensional and installation work, and in the incorporation of contemporary concerns such as environment and commercialism, collage is experiencing an exciting renaissance.
First gaining popularity in the early 1900s, with such pieces as Picasso’s The Dream in 1908 and Still Life with Chair Caning in 1912, collage has proliferated though the ages. From figures such as Kurt Schwitters, to works by the Constructivists, Dadaists, and Surrealists, to 1960s and 70s Pop Art, the form has branched out into a myriad of fine art practice that encompasses assemblage, montage, and décolage. Collage draws together the work of influential artists to contextualize the art being produced today.
Collage features the art of such internationally acclaimed artists as Picasso, Schwitters and Ernst, Hannah Hoch, Marta Rosler, John Stezaker, Richard Hamilton, Layla Curtis, David Salle, Eduardo Poalozzi, Javier Rodriguez, Robert Rauschenberg, David Thorpe, Fred Tomaselli, Matthew Rose and many more.

Birthdaycard before December 12th 2012
I’m going to beg!
That’s right, I have a favor to ask and that’s where you come in.
You see, I’m turning 33 on December 12 but I’ll be spending most of the day alone. I usually celebrate with my boyfriend, but this year Martin will be leaving for his intership at 5am and he won’t be coming back until the next day at 8pm. Louis-Justin will be at school, obviously. My mom said that we could go out to eat together, which is nice, but I’ll be spending the night alone, in my big bed, cold and in tears… OK, I might not cry, but I’m pretty sure I’ll feel a little lonely for my birthday this year.
So I had an idea. I asked myself what would be a good way to celebrate my birthday all by myself… and I found it! I want to celebrate it with you!
So would you please please please please please (that’s me begging) write me a little letter or send me a card for my birthday? I’m on my knees…
I’ll gather all my birthday mail and will only open it on my actual birthday. And I’ll share photos on my blog, of course!
So if you’d like to send me a little something, please write “birthday mail” anywhere on the envelope so that I don’t open it right away. December 12 is in about 3 weeks, so it should leave enough time for letters and cards to reach me.
Oh, by the way, I’m not expecting presents so please don’t send any! Just a card or a note would be perfect.
Here’s my address:
It would seriously make my birthday a lot more enjoyable to read a little something from my online friends & blog readers. Thank you in advance for making me feel a little less lonely!

LET’S TALK
Stehekin
is isolated. During the snows of winter,
we’re connected to the outside world only by a boat that navigates Lake Chelan
3 days a week. We love our isolation but
we like to stay connected. Our
artists have begun installing an art show.
With the show we hope to be in touch with artists everywhere by
inviting the world-wide community of mail artists to take part. We think of it as a conversation.
To
get the conversation going, every week on our web site, http://stehekinmailart.weebly.com/lets-talk.html
two of our pieces will be pictured.
This will continue until mid-January.
It will tell you something about us, our home and what we do. With your art we hope to find out more about
you and your place in the world. Send
mail art every week or send it just once.
Your art will go up in our gallery as part of the show. The written word is also welcome.
SIZE: from postcard size up to
business envelope size (approximately 4 ½” X 10”).
DEADLINE: There is no
deadline.
CONTENT: Your art will not be
juried. However, anything we think
inappropriate for our children to see will be shown in a separate space – our
version of a “Salon des Refuses”.
ALL ENTRIES will be pictured on our website http://stehekinmailart.weebly.com/index.html . I'm sorry, we can’t return your art.

Just a kid again!
what does it mean to be a kid again?
what would it take to rediscover how it felt back than?
where was the innocence lost?
why have we forgotten ourselves?
Pondering on the questions above, we may recapture memories, images, feelings in order to redifine the present.
sent your massage to the children and support them.

Posted on June 2, 2012
To celebrate 20 years of making Cack music, art and performance Wevie Stonder will be opening a multidimensional portal to their World Of Wevie in Hamburg on Friday November the 30th 2012.
The event “Wevie Wonderland in 3D – eine Schnapsidee von Wevie Stonder” will feature a plethora of Vaudevillian attractions including lectures, historic re-enactments, Cack films and performances such as “Wolfboy”, “Small People”, “Chuck Spunk vs Mothman”, and to top it all off “Wevie Stonder Live in 3D!”.
A very important part of the celebrations will be an exhibition of Mail Art with the theme -
“D Is For Dogs”.
We would like to invite you to participate by sending us your mail art! Drawings; paintings; sculptures; whatever form this favoured Wevie subject inspires you to produce.
It’s up to you!
The only criteria is that you mail it to us at the following address: Wevie Stonder c/o Henry Sargeant, Schleswigerstrasse 6, 22761 Hamburg, Deutschland.
All participants will receive an invitation for free entry to the event and exhibition (this will be by e-mail so please include this with your mail art).
